Gayle L. Vaughn, 58, of Connersville, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the St. Vincent Hospital Hospice Center in Indianapolis.

She was born October 17, 1951 in Crawfordsville, IN, one of two children of Harold and Elizabeth "Bessie" Baker Vaughn. A life-long resident of Connersville, she was a 1969 graduate of Connersville High School.

For over 15 years, she was employed at Fayette Memorial Hospital as an Admissions Clerk.

A 45 year member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Gayle served as the Church Secretary, President of the Missionary Ministry, past director of the Senior Saints Ministry and volunteer trip coordinator, secretary and bus driver for the Mt. Zion Daycare. She also serves as the Information Director for the Indiana Missionary Baptist State Convention, and in several positions for the Southeastern District Association Missionary Baptist Convention, including Information Officer, General Convention 1st Assistant Secretary, Chairperson for the Moderator & President's Address Committee, Corresponding Secretary for Music Ministry Convention, member of the Temperance Board, Credentials Committee and Host Committee. Under her leadership with the Missionary Ministry, a fall Retreat for women was created as well as The Phoebe Award. She had also served as facilitator for several workshops and conferences.

In addition to her active involvement in church related ministries, Gayle volunteered for the Boys and Girls Club, was a former 4-H leader and Den Mother for Cub Scout Pak #133, was a former American Red Cross volunteer where she served on the Disaster Team, worked at the annual Fayette County 4-H Fair booth and chaired the Red Cross Style Show. In November 2003, she was awarded the "Volunteer Of The Month" for the Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross.

She was an Past Matron for the Fayette Chapter #33 Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall affiliated; and member of the Ladies Red Hat Society.

During her leisure she loved to play Bingo, Pokeno and crochet. An avid bowler, she served as Past President of the Whitewater Valley Bowling Association and was elected to the Whitewater Valley Bowling Hall of Fame in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Kent Vaughn and wife Jeannie of Connersville; one brother: Joel Vaughn of Connersville; and many friends from the church and community.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Friday, June 11, 2010 at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Jerome Weaver, officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4-8 PM Thursday at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home, with the Order of the Eastern Star Memorial Services held at 7:30 that evening.

Memorial contributions may be made in care of the funeral home to The Gayle Vaughn Memorial Fund.
