Visiting hours will be observed at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Friday, October 3, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visiting will resume at Resthaven Funeral Home on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 9:00 am until service time. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am. Interment to follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Jerry was a native of McComb, MS. Jerry was a 4 sport athlete at McComb High School and went on to play football and baseball in the US Army for two years. He then played for the University of Wyoming. Jerry began coaching after graduation in Cheyanne, Wyoming, Rapid City, South Dakota, Columbia, MS, Panama City, FL, Baton Rouge, and Ascension Parish. He touched many lives in his coaching career, always with a quick smile and a little gleam in his eye. Jerry never met a stranger.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Beryl Crochet Wilkinson; two sons, Bret Wilkinson and wife Randi, and Jay Wilkinson and wife Ena; daughter, Stacey Wilkinson; step-sons, Troy Gibbens, Tracy Gibbens, and Jimmy Gibbens; fifteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lillian Wilkinson; son, Scott Wilkinson; one step-son, Ben Gibbens; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Myers and Mrs. Elsie Boyd; and one brother, Jack L. Wilkinson.
Jerry loved his family and friends, sports, parades, and festivals, all made better by his presence.
