Mr. Ray P. Bowen of Goodway Junction passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at his home. He was born January 17, 1932 to Albert Bowen and Mattie Mae Blackburn Bowen. Ray, a native of Frisco City, Alabama, lived in Monroe County most of his life. He joined the United States Army in 1950 and served 6 years. During his service, he was in combat in Korea for 18 months. He married Colleen McMillan of Goodway in 1955, was honorably discharged from service in December 1955, and moved to Pensacola and worked at Newport Industries for 10 years. He then went into construction work as a supervisor for J.E. Harris Construction Company until 1994 when he retired. After retirement, he enjoyed working in his garden until July of this year. He was of the Baptist faith. Ray loved his wife, Colleen; his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne Bowen Doran and Jerry L. Doran of Century, FL; his three grandchildren, Jerry Lee Doran, Jr., John Ray Doran, and Misty Suzanne Doran all of Century, FL ; his brothers, David (Maize) Bowen of Frisco City, Jerry (Joann) Bowen of Frisco City, and Ferrell Bowen of Bay Minette; his sisters, Alice Snow of Uriah and Marie (Jerry) Kranz of Arkansas; his sister-in-law, Betty Guy of Coffeeville ; his brother-in-law, Carl (Gloria) McMillan of Goodway; and nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. Funeral services for Mr. Bowen will be Friday, November 19, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy White and Rev. Robert Knowles officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Frisco City with military honors. Visitation for Mr. Bowen will be Thursday, November 18th from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
