OBITUARY in Grinnell, Iowa newspaper.
Harrison Newton and his family came to Iowa in the spring of 1868 looking for a farm, eventually buying land five miles north of Kellogg in Jasper County, where they lived for about eight years.

Then they moved to a farm two miles west of Newburg. In 1888 they retired from the farm and moved to Grinnell in order to secure better educational advantages for their children.

In 1899 they moved to Gilman, in Marshall County, where Harrison died two years later.

After the Civil War broke out, Harrison left his wife and family in the spring of 1864 and enlisted as a Private in Company H, 139th Regiment of Infantry in Illinois on May 10, 1864. He was honorably discharged October 28, 1864 at Peoria, Illinois. He was a member of the Gordon Granger Post No. 64, GAR in Grinnell, Iowa.

He became a member of the Congregational Church in Kellogg in 1871. During his residence in Mariposa Township, he and his wife were involved in sustaining Sunday Schools and Christian worship. They were instrumental in organizing a rural Congregational church which, after they moved, was reorganized as the Presbyterian Church of Barrett.

Harrison and his wife were charter members of the Congregational Church in Newburg, which was established in 1880.

He died June 4, 1905, with services held June 6 in the Congregational Church in Gilman, and was buried in the Prairie View Cemetery at Gilman, Iowa.
