Mr. Wesley H. Nelson, 55, of Mt. Airy, died at his home Sunday evening, Sept. 28, 2014 surrounded by his family following a 14 month battle with colon cancer. He was the loving husband of Carol Kettering Nelson.

Born January 7, 1959 in New York, he was the son of Wallace and Dolores Zickefoose Nelson of Pennsylvania.

Wes enjoyed hunting, cycling and coaching soccer. He was a life member of the NRA. Wes was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mt. Airy where he served as an usher, was active in prayer groups and served as a youth mentor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Maddison Vollmer and husband, Matthew; and Morgan Nelson, all of Mt. Airy; brother, Craig Nelson and wife, Susan of Maryland; sister, Susan Sharpe and husband, Patrick, of Wisconsin; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 3 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 from Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main Street in Mt. Airy.
