HERBERT D. CURIE, 81, 704 South Lee Street, died at his home Wednesday at 5:30am. He had been in failing health the past four and one-half years. A resident of Garrett for 50 years, Mr. Curie was a retired master carpenter and bridge builder for the B&O Railroad. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, BPO Elks, FO Eagles and F & AM Masonic Lodge, all of Garrett.
Mr. Curie was born in St. Joe on Jan 22, 1899 to the late Frank and Cora (Sechler) Curie. He married Hazel Ernest in Jackson, Mich, on Oct. 5, 1930. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Barbara Curie, and one brother, Frank Curie, both of St. Louis, Mo; and four sisters, Kathryn Jump and Mary Brown, both of Hicksville, Ohio; Ruth Moore, Arizona; and Lucille Frederick, Fort Wayne. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30am in Baidinger and Walter Funeral Home, Spencerville. James Platner, pastor of the First Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, St. Joe. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
