St. Albans – Edgar William Pierce a lifelong resident of this community passed away on Monday, September 29, 2014, at the Franklin County Rehab Center with his family at his side.

Born in St. Albans on August 16, 1917, he was the son of the late Edna (Shover) Pierce. Edgar was 97 years old.

Edgar attended school in St. Albans and then joined the U.S. Army in October of 1940 and was honorably discharged in August of 1945 with the rank of Staff Sargent. He then began a 32 year career with the former Central Vermont Rail Road retiring in 1977. He was a longtime member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion and Robert E. Glidden Post # 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Leola (Savage) Pierce of St. Albans; their children, William Pierce and his wife, Annette, of Alburgh, Barbara Duprey and her husband, Maynard, of Bluffton, SC and Robert Pierce and his wife, Lorraine, of Essex Jct. Edgar is also survived by his grandchildren, Nicole Boire, Thomas Pierce, Michael Pierce, Toni Campbell, Matthew Merchant, Nathan Merchant, Brian Duprey, Julie Dufresne and Charles Pierce and 15 great-grandchildren. Edgar was preceded in death by his sister, Alberta Thurston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday October 6, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 246 Lake Street, St. Albans. Prayers of Committal and Military honors will follow with interment to be in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
