ADA-Services for Johnny Terry Dean Bryan, 65, of Ada, are 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Danny Wells will officiate. Burial will follow at Five-Mile Cemetery, east of Ada.
Mr. Bryan died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born in Ada, Oklahoma to Audie and Geraldine Melton Bryan. John attended the early elementary grades at Happyland. He later enrolled in Byng School and graduated from Byng High School in 1967. He attended East Central University and completed two degrees by 1985.
During high school, he worked as a mechanic to earn money for college tuition. John joined the U. S. Army Reserve Unit and fulfilled his service. He began working part-time at the local auto supply stores and later became fulltime at the B & M Parts on Main Street before accepting a position of store manager for the A & K in Holdenville.
John married Judy in 1973. John began a teaching career with the Southwest Region School District in Alaska that lasted from 1979 to 2001. During the 22 years in the Yu’pik Eskimo village of Manokotak, Alaska, his job duties included teaching high school industrial arts and some elementary classes, counseling at ten itinerate schools within the Southwest Region School District, sponsored student training travel and administered the ASVAB and ACT testing. He retired and returned to his home in Happyland.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Bryan, of the home; two daughters, Katrina Allen and husband Steve and granddaughters, Tabitha and Courtney, all of Holdenville, and future great grandson, Preston Thomas Brewer, and Amanda Nave and husband Howard of Blackwell; one brother, Glen Bryan and wife Doris of Vamoosa; an aunt, Alene Morris of Clinton, TN; uncle, Walter Melton, Jr. and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and a brother, Melvin Dewayne Bryan.
Bearers will be Phil Lawrence, Jacob Perkins, Earl Melton, Gerald Melton, Rick Wallace, Logan Hill, Donovan Hill, Howard Nave and Steve Allen. Honorary bearers will be Boyd Hill, Bill Shockey and Randy Fuqua.
