MORTUARY

William Roberts Scott

William Roberts Scott, son of Alexander O. and Jane K. Scott, was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, near Steubenville, June 21, 1863.

The family moved to Madison county, between Truro and St. Charles, when he was three years old. When quite young, he learned the printer’s trade and as a young man traveled all over the United States in his work.

He was married to Alma Sharpe, September 3, 1893, at Meade, Kansas. They then lived for some time in Medford, Oklahoma, and later moved to Winterset. To this union five children were born. Two died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Hamilton, passed away in 1926. Those remaining are Grace and Clarence, in the home.

Mrs. Scott passed away in 1905, and Mr. Scott became both father and mother to his children.

After coming to Winterset, he was for many years foreman of the Winterset Reporter, and later worked for the other papers. He was an active Mason in his earlier years, but gave up his membership a few years ago. He was known as an honest and faithful workman and as one who was kind and charitable in his thoughts towards others. His finest friendships were those he made with the children who lived near him. He was still active when stricken with apoplexy on May 13, 1929, at the age of 65 years.

He leaves beside his son and daughter, his grandson Harry Hamilton, also in the home; two brothers, Tom W. Scott, of Winterset, and Edward Scott, of Arkansas City, Kansas; one sisters, Mrs. Hettie Leggett, of St. Charles, and many other relatives.

The Rev F. C. McCallon conducted the funeral services in the Tidrick funeral home, Thursday afternoon, May 16th, and the burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
