James F. Wilkes, 89, a native of Macon County, died, Tuesday of last week, following a long illness, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Horace Morgan, of the Upper Iotla community.

Funeral services were held the following afternoon at the Morgan home at 3 o'clock. The Rev. Robert Burnett officiated and burial was in the Wilkes Family Cemetery.

Mr. Wilkes, a retired farmer, was the son of James O. and Mrs. Lavada Evans Wilkes. He was married in 1883 to Miss Linda Reeves, who died about 18 months ago.

Surviving, in addition to Mrs. Morgan, are three daughters, Mrs. Walter Bryant, of Franklin, Route 3, Mrs. Ernest Roper, of Monticello, Ga., and Mrs May Bryson, of Atlanta, Ga.; one son, Glady Wilkes, of Franklin Route 3; one brother, Bill Wilkes, of Franklin Route 3; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Cornell DeWeese, Lewis Seay, Ezzell Bryant, Herman Wilkes, Howard Roper and Wymer DeWeese.
Arrangements were under the direction of Potts Funeral Home.
