Obituary...
Lucy Kate (Reese) Adkins
APRIL 27, 1929 – APRIL 4, 2021
Katie went to be with the Lord after living a long full life. She was proud to say she was born a coal miner's daughter to Fayette and Bessie Reese. Katie lived her entire life in Bradford, Al and never understood why anyone would want to live anywhere else. She was a member of Hughes Memorial Baptist Church. She worked as a office manager at Pinson Medical for many years as well as Medical Center East. She was a member of Civitan International, the Eastern Star and many other organizations. Welcoming her to heaven was the love of her life Glenn Adkins; her parents Fayette and Bessie Reese, her brother Sonny Reese and her son-in-law Jerome McCombs. She is survived by her daughter Glenda Kay McCombs; her grandsons, Adam (Esther) and Mark (Adina); her great-grands Addison, Eleanor Rose and Samuel J.; nephew Randy Reese and Sandy and their children Jeremiah (Ashley) and Laci who helped care for her and several other nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Doris Reese. A special thank you to the staff at Legacy Woods for the kindness and care they gave to her during her last months. They are special people. Recently she described herself well when she said I just love living and she did. She liked Dr Pepper, Sweet Tea, and chocolate. Her love of history was obvious in the stories she loved to tell. Due to Covid there will only be a graveside service at Hopewell cemetery on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 11:00AM. Masks and social distancing required. In lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution in Katie's memory to Legacy Woods Hayden, Al. or to the Hughes Memorial Benevolence Fund Pinson, Al. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ridoutsgardendalechapel.com for the Adkins family.
