Wayne Everett Rex, 95, passed away March 5, 2004. He was born in Ames, Iowa, to Harry and Alma (McColly) Rex on Jan. 9, 1909. The family moved to Colorado in 1912 and settled in Calhan in eastern El Paso County. He graduated from high school in 1928 and moved to Colorado Springs in 1930. He moved to Pueblo in 1932, where in early 1935, he met Alice Vap of Deweese, Neb. She had come to Pueblo to attend nurse's training at the old St. Mary's hospital. They were married June 28, 1935. Everett had a service station for a while, and in 1938, went into the dairy business in Rye, Colo., until 1950 when they sold their herd and moved back to Pueblo. In 1951, he went to work for Pueblo Transit Company driving a bus. He retired in 1974 after 23 years. After their retirement, they traveled in their motor home and spent several winters in Arizona. They also enjoyed traveling throughout the country on many guided bus tours. They moved from the Oasis Mobile Home Park to the Pueblo Regent Retirement Home in 2000. Everett was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alice; a brother-in-law, David Vap, and his wife, Loretta, of Colorado Springs; a sister-in-law, Mildred Rex of Colorado Springs; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Visitation, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at George McCarthy Historic Chapel, with burial in Roselawn Cemetery.
