David Edward Polk, 95, of Hattiesburg, died January 28, 2014 at his home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014, at the Prentiss/Polk Cemetery.

Mr. Polk was an avid backyard farmer. A driver for Greyhound Bus Company for 42 years, he logged 151 million miles safely and was a member of AFLCIO, Local 1600 since 1941. He lived in New Orleans for 68 years before moving back to Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina.

Mr. Polk was preceded in death by his wife, Bert Weathersby Polk; his parents, Fred and Betty Polk; a grandson, Michael David Beatty; two brothers; two sisters; and a son-in-law, Dr. Stanford G. Beatty Jr.

He is survived by two daughters, Martha Polk and Caroline Polk Beatty both of Hattiesburg; a granddaughter, Kara Beatty Lanning of Hattiesburg; two great-grandchildren, Rachael Lanning and Mark Lanning, Jr. both of Hattiesburg; and one nephew, Jerry Polk and his wife Alma of Hattiesburg.
