Obituary:
John Wayne McGaha, 50, passed away on April 19th following a 3-year battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of just shy of 24 years, Jennifer, and children Ryan, 23, Rebecca, 18, and Cara, 12; his mother and father Jacqueline and Wendell McGaha of Townsend, DE, maternal grandmother Sophie Jenkot and uncle Jessie Jenkot, both from Rehoboth Beach, DE, sister Cynthia Ash of Smyrna, DE and her children RJ and Angel, and Angel's newborn son Michael Wayne.

John worked at MBNA America for many years as a call center manager and also several years in the sports marketing department. Bank of America picked John to be on their team where he most recently spent several years as a project manager.

John enjoyed baseball tremendously and was a member of the JBW Strat-O-Matic Baseball League from 1985 until his death. His final record was 2186-1474 for a .597 winning percentage. He holds league records for wins (2186), pennants (10), and championships (6). He was voted into the league Hall Of Fame in 2011. John managed the Yankees (85-97), Athletics (98-2001), and finally, the Cubs/Nationals (2002-2013). The JBW Baseball League has dedicated the remainder of the 2014 season to John in appreciation of his service to the league. Everyone also knew John to be an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs since he was about 10.
John has been an active member of Civil Air Patrol since 1977. As a youth, he was a Spaatz Cadet, completing the highest achievement for cadets, and as an adult, he earned the rank of Lt Colonel. John was a mentor, leader, and friend to the cadets in the Delaware Wing. He was a member of and then coached the Diamond Flight Drill Team for many of those years, under his direction; the drill team won competitions in the region and national level, including being the national champion. John was awarded 2007 National Senior Member of the Year Award.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 25, at St. Joseph RC Church, 371 E. Main St., Middletown at 11 am. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, April 24, from 7-9 pm at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown.
