H. Blair Anthony, 84, a funeral director, formerly of Villanova, Pa., died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010 at Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square, Pa.

He was born Jan. 27, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Walter Y. and Edna (nee Bair) Anthony. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

A funeral director for 60 years (1950-2010) Mr. Anthony graduated from Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia and attended Brown University and the University of Pennsylvania.

He was a former owner-partner of the R.R. Bringhurst - Andrew J. Bair Funeral Home in Upper Darby, Pa. He was the great-grandson of Andrew J. Bair who founded the original Andrew J. Bair & Son Funeral Home in 1822. He was the current supervisor of the R. R. Bringhurst Funeral Home at West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

Blair was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, Past District Governor of the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, Past President of the Philadelphia Funeral Directors Association, and past Secretary-Treasurer of the Delaware County Funeral Directors Association.

He was Treasurer of the Rosemont-Villanova Civic Association for 28 years (1968-1997) and Treasurer of the Federation of Lower Merion Township Civic Associations. He was also Past Commander of American Legion Merion Post # 545 and was a Mason and member of Melita Lodge #295.

Mr. Anthony was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd holding such leadership positions as Treasurer, Treasurer of the Endowment and Memorial Fund and President of the Board of Trustees.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanne (nee Parks) Anthony, two daughters, Dawn Anthony and Dale Mitchell; two sons, Todd C. and James B. Anthony and by seven grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Josephine Schofield and by a brother, Walter Y. Anthony. Memorial
