Born May 30, 1969, she was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, a graduate of Parkview Baptist High School and a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University School of Nursing. She died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, resulting from complications of diabetes. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. Visiting at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 2 p.m. until religious services at 3 p.m. Thursday,conducted by the Rev. Pat Sparks of Bear Creek United Methodist Church in Houston. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by her husband, Ike F. Hawkins III, and her two children, Jacob Chase Hawkins and Hannah Elisibeth Hawkins, all of Baton Rouge; mother and stepfather, Becky and Bill Jacobs, Houston; father, Art Day, Slaughter; a sister and brother-in-law, Paula and David Taylor, and two nieces, Madison and Ashton Taylor, all of Baton Rouge. The family requests that memorial contributions be designated specifically for research to the American Diabetes Association, 12090 S. Harrell's Ferry Road, Baton Rouge LA 70816; as an organ donor, she was an enthusiastic advocate for the Louisiana Organ Procurement Association, 3501 N.Causeway Blvd.,Suite 940, Metairie, LA 70002.
