Josephine M. Barber, a resident of Swanville, died Dec. 8, 2004, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls. Funeral services were held Dec. 13 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville with the Rev. John Grein officiating. Burial was in Bearhead Cemetery near Pillsbury.

Josephine M. Barber was born Jan. 28, 1911, in Burnhamville, Township, to the late Peter Thompson and Emma (Vedvig) Thompson. She grew up in Burnhamville Township where she attended country school and Swanville High School. She was united in marriage to Harland Barber on June 14, 1933, in Swanville. Following their marriage, Josephine and Harland farmed around Swanville. She also worked at Larson Boats in Little Falls. Harland died July 24, 1987. In 1993, Josephine became a resident of the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls, residing there until her death. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville. She enjoyed bowling with her team in Long Prairie, gardening and cooking.
Josephine is survived by her sons, Vernon Barber and wife Gladys, James Barber and wife Diane, all of Burtrum; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harland; parents, Peter and Emma Thompson; daughters, Irene Barber and Bonnie Peterson; son Harland Barber, Jr.; grandson Gifford Peterson; sisters, Bertha Young, Ida Zimmermen, Helen Lawson, Ethel Hoffmen, Anna Rodene; brothers, Sam, Oscar, Ted and Cassel Thompson.

Casketbearers were Jeff, Chris, Doug, Jon and Justin Barber, Bruce, Steve and Mike Peterson.
