After serving 3 years in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, he went on to graduate from Palm Beach Junior College and the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Folsom began his Optometry practice in 1950 in the small town of Pompano. Loving his profession and still in great health, he continued working until just a few years ago with long time partner Dr. Tom Dennis. He served his profession as a member of the Florida Optometric Association and Broward County Optometric Assn.
He and his wife of 60 years, Virginia (deceased), were both active members of First Baptist Church Pompano Beach since 1950. Jim served his community as President of Pompano Beach Rotary Club where he was a a member for over 50 years. He enjoyed a full life with his favorite hobbies: flying, hunting, cheering for the UF Gators, fishing and he'll always be lovingly remembered hosting his famous Fish Fries for numerous friends and fsamily.
He is survived by his wife Margie (Yunick) Folsom, sisters Joyce (Bob-deceased), Annette (Charles), Sybil (George) and Juanita-deceased, daughter Laurel Person (Steve) of Fort Lauderdale, sons Frank (Melanie) and Glenn of Pompano Beach, granddaughter Lauren (Jason) & great grandson Hunter Bullinger, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Services to honor Jim will be at First Baptist Church of Pompano Beach at 11 am on Wed. October 1, with visitation at the church at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to First Baptist Church Pompano or Hospice by the Sea. Arrangements under the direction of Kraeer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Pompano Beach, Florida.
