Mr. McDaniel was born July 1, 1938, to Joe and Margaret McDaniel, in Paonia, Colo. He spent his childhood in the Paonia and Hotchkiss area of Colorado and attended Hotchkiss High School. He retired from Laborer's International Union of North America, Local 341, Anchorage, Alaska.
Mr. McDaniel was a respected professional in the mining industry, specializing in explosive engineering. His profession allowed him to satisfy his wandering heart, not only traveling and working mostly in the western United States but also reaching as far south as Chile, South America, and ending in Alaska.
He fondly referred to himself as a "tramp miner."
He is survived by his loving caregiver and best friend, Mona Pollard, of Apache Junction, Ariz.; son, Lance McDaniel, of Palmer; daughters, Pam Fuger and Terry Lane, of Wasilla, and Hillary McDaniel, of Paonia, Colo.; sisters, Donna Gaswint, of Lewiston, Idaho, and Colleen Randall, of Las Vegas, Nev.
He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Joey McDaniel.
