Harold "PeeWee" Park of Midwest City, Oklahoma, one of Oklahoma's finest high school football coaches, left this stadium victorious and entered into his eternal heavenly home on Thursday, September 25, 2014. He was born August 2, 1931, the youngest of four boys, of Walter and Mollie (Pyland) Park. During his childhood he soon became known as "PeeWee", a nickname that became his calling card throughout his entire life. An undersized overachiever, he pursued all competitive athletic endeavors in high school football, basketball, and track. As a 105-pound senior quarterback, he was often confused as the waterboy but went ahead and led his team to the state semifinals. He graduated from Waurika High School in 1949, enlisted into the United States Navy and bravely served his country for 4 years as an Aviation Structural Mechanic Airman. On October 14, 1951 he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Pat Garrett. They were married for thirty-three years before her death in 1985. When he completed his military commitment; he began to follow his heart's desire to become a mentor and leader of young men through the sport of football. He graduated from Central State University with his Master's Degree and began his football career path in 1957 as an assistant coach at Ryan, Oklahoma High School. Within two years, he was promoted to the head coaching position. He moved after three seasons as the head coach to take over programs at his high school alma mater in Waurika, OK (three years), Okeene, OK (four years), Fox, Oklahoma (two years), Cleveland, Oklahoma (two years), and Sayre, Oklahoma (13 years). Along the way, Coach Park began to pile up honors and laurels in addition to wins and milestones. He coached the 1973 All-state football game and the 1985 Oil Bowl in which Oklahoma defeated Texas, 13-12. His 1985 Sayre team reached the Class 2A State Finals. In 1990, he was elected to the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame followed by the 1991 Oil Bowl Hall of Fame. On December 26, 1987; he married Judith Wiseman who became his wife, wonderful help mate and caregiver to him for 27 years. After retiring from coaching he became the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Coaches Association in 1987. Known for being a coach's coach, he served in that role thirteen years. By the time he retired from the OCA in 2000, membership had doubled to more than 5,000 members, improving the funding, sports programs, and sponsorship support of the organization. He then took on yet another leadership role within the national family of coaches by providing a helping hand in the founding of the National Organization of Coaches Association Directors. During his retirement years, Coach Park enjoyed golf, traveling with friends, mentoring young coaches, and spending time with his family. He mentored; coached, befriended thousands of young men throughout Oklahoma during his life, leaving a legacy that will last into eternity. Funeral Services will be at 10:00A.M. Monday, September 29, 2014 at Meadowood Baptist Church. Interment will be at 3:00 P.M. at Waurika Cemetery.
