Edward H. Bittner, 73, of Winfield died Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at the Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg.

He was born March 10, 1928, in West Deer.

An Army veteran, he served during World War II in Japan.

He was a mechanic and truck driver for: Country Belle Dairy and Schaffer Trucking, both in Butler; Kenneth Schmidt Trucking and David E. Bauman & Co. Trucking, both in Saxonburg; and Walters & Haas in Sarver.

Mr. Bittner was a member of Mair Lodge Masons in Mars, York Rite, Pittsburgh Syria Shrine in Harmar and the Saxonburg Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Dolores "Dolly" Malovich Bittner; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Kathy) Helgert of Sarver and Mrs. Thomas (Karen) Pierce of Cabot; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Joseph V. Bittner of Butler and Robert C. Bittner of Mars.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Tyson; his parents, Joseph J. Sr. and Roberta Van Ryn Bittner; and a stepsister, Elizabeth Jones.

Visiting hours will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the FOX FUNERAL HOME, Saxonburg, where a service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday. Officiating will be the Rev. Jim Lewis, chaplain for the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice Services.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana Township.

Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
