Everett C. Schmidt 79 passed away Monday, May 2, 2005 at St. Luke's Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 5, 2005 at the United Methodist Church of Laurens with Rev. Larry McAlpine officiating. Warren Hartley provided special music with Barbara Wallin as accompanist.

Honorary casket bearers were Tom Vitzthum, Pat Wright, Howard Kaufman, Pete Peterson, Allen Shaw and Bill Peterson. Active casket bearers were Bill Mather, Clarence Siepker, Don Aschenbrenner, Mark Sernett, Dale Frantz and Bob Dallenbach.

Everett Charles Schmidt was born September 30, 1925 at Cylinder, the son of Charles and Katie Krug Schmidt. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1945. On June 1, 1952, Everett married Marlene Ernst at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. The couple settled in Laurens where Everett work for M and J R Hakes Co, later known as Scrivner. He retired in 1987, after 43 years of service.

Everett was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served on several committees and was awarded a Special Recognition Membership by the UMW in 1993. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local 650.

Survivors include his wife Marlene of Laurens, son Tom Schmidt of Laurens, daughters Kim, Mrs. Pat Kelly of Carroll and Siri. Mrs. Philip Christy of Spencer, 7 grandchildren and three sisters, Edna Storesund of Glidden, Lillian Longseth of Bode and Rosabell Johnson of Emmetsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Harvey Schmidt.
