Jacob M. Schlecht was born in South Russia on November 29, 1857. He was married to Miss Matilda Wohlgmuth on January 19, 1882 and came to America in 1884 and settled in Aurora, Nebraska and in 1891 they came to McCook, where they have since resided. There was born to Mr. and Mrs. Schlecht, eight girls and five boys, one girl, Emma, died in 1908.
Brother Schlecht was raised in the German Lutheran church and became a member while a boy and has always been one until they came to McCook where they found no German Lutheran church, and then Mr. and Mrs. Schlecht joined the German Congregational church.
Brother Schlecht departed from this life on August 20, 1923 at the age of 65 years, 9 months, and 21 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure a wife, 7 girls and 5 boys and 10 grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
The funeral was held at the home in West McCook by Rev. C.W. Ray on Thursday afternoon. -- McCook Gazette.
Mr. Schlecht was the father of Mrs. K.S. Hust of this city and her many friends here extend their sympathy in this sad hour of the loss of her father. She and two children went to McCook to attend the obsequis.
