ROME — In Canastota, Wednesday night, occurred the death of John D. Sloat. Deceased resided in Oneida County for many years, living in Taberg, Lee and Rome. While in this city he was proprietor of Hotel Brynes in East Rome.
He went to Canastota several years ago and engaged in hotel keeping. He had been in poor health for some time. He was twice married. His second wife survives, also one daughter Mrs. Thomas R. (Ida A.) Rees. Rome Semi-Weekly Citizen, Saturday, April 22, 1893
