Born at Yankee Dam just above Elkhurst in what was Nicholas County, Virginia, at the time and is today Clay County, West Virginia.
Died at his son Adam's home in Charleston, WV.

S/O George and Barbara Parsons Shamblin. His older brothers were Isaiah and Lawson, younger brothers were Van and George. His sisters were Mary, Elizabeth, Harriet and Lucinda.

Father and brothers Isaiah and Lawson served in Capt Wm King's 126th Militia, also known as the Clay County Scouts. Isaiah and Lawson enlisted in the Union Army in July of 1863 in Company G, 3rd Reg WV Cavalry Volunteers. On March 25,1864, Thaddeus enlisted in Co F WV Cavalry. Pension records indicate that he was 19 at the time of enlistment, and state that he was living in Fishers Point, Jackson County. Brother Isaiah died in 1864, in a hospital at Harpers Ferry according to some sources. Others claim that he died in Philadelphia. Isaiah is buried at the Winchester National Cemetery in Winchester, Virginia. Brother Lawson died June 30, 1865 in a military hospital in Arlington, VA, and is buried in the Alexandria National Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia.

The same day that Lawson died, Thaddeus was discharged under "Special Instructions" and was mustered out August 1, 1865, after serving 1 year, 4 months and 10 days.

Per 1890 census - Thaddeus was living in Kenna, WV and suffered from rheumatism and a gunshot wound in the left shoulder. It was not stated if this wound was received in the war.

1896 - Thaddeus lived Clay County; 1913 Newton, Roane County; 1915 Charleston, WV; 1921 Dorfee, Clay Co WV; 1924 at his son Adam's home in Kanawha Co WV.
