Ed Dalton, Long Lending Banker, Died On Sunday
Had Been In Failing Health For Several Years
Edwin A. Dalton, for more than a generation one of Le Mars leading business men, died Sunday, November 30, after a long period of failing health. Although handicapped by high blood pressure he was uptown and in his office nearly every day until he grew worse last Tuesday and was taken to a hospital, where he passed away Sunday afternoon.
Ed. Dalton was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Dalton, and was born Oct. 3, 1869, at Jessup, Iowa. In the early 80's the family moved to Le Mars and after graduating from Le Mar high school in one of the first classes and from Princeton university, Ed. returned to Le Mars and became associated with his father in the bank the latter had established. Upon the death of his father, Ed became executive officer of the First National bank and continued in that capacity until 15 years ago. Since his retirement from the bank he maintained an office uptown and transacted some business as long as his health permitted.
Mr. Dalton was married in 1898 to Mrs. Julia McLean, who preceded him in death three yearn ago. A son, Captain Donald Dalton, U. S. Navy, died in Washington, D. C, early this year.
The only survivors are his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harriet Wynne Dalton, Washington, D. C, and a niece, Mary Dalton Menhall of Edgerton, Wis., who has made frequent trips here to see Mr. Dalton, but was unable to come to the funeral because she was ill and in the hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at the Dalton residence at 10:30 Wednesday morning with Rev. Golden Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery.
Pallbearers will be M. A. Cass, Jr., John Moore, Hale Parker, R. R. Bedell, C. L. Eastman and Stanley Post. Honorary pallbearers are R. J. Koehler, Frank Hentges, Clarence Becker, John Hoffman, Sr., W. K. Veale and J. G. Koenig
For almost a half century Mr. Dalton was active in Le Mars business and social life and a leader in all civic activities.
