Joseph N. Sherman Jr., age 93, of Laceyville, Pa., passed away on Sunday morning, Sept. 21, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Joe was born in Boonton, N.J. on Oct. 8, 1920, the son of the late Joseph N. and Emily Gruening Sherman Sr. He was a graduate of the Boonton High School (N.J.) class of 1938. After graduation Joe proudly served his country as a Technician Third Grade for the 849th Signal Intelligence Service with the United States Army during World War II. He served his country on foreign soils in Europe and Africa during the war and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Joe married the late Dorothy Jeanne Garletts who passed away July 21, 1994 and together they had six children. Joe worked for AT&T as an Engineer in New Jersey after the war until he retired and moved to Pennsylvania. He was a man that liked to keep busy so he worked many jobs. He worked in a greenhouse, installed windshields and alarm systems, and delivered prescriptions for Rite-Aid drugstore. But his favorite job was being an original founder of Brickhouse Services along with his son Richard. Joe enjoyed working with his hands in his yard and on his home. He loved reading and spent time visiting the ladies at the Laceyville and Wyalusing libraries. He was a well-liked man that was always willing to stop what he was doing to visit or help someone in need. Joe had a great sense of humor and had a lot of love for his family. His special miniature pincher Junior was always by his side. His greatest pleasure came from spending time with his beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who will miss him so much and will grow up without the chance to experience his knowledge, sense of humor, and his love. Joe is survived by his six children, Virginia Durren (fiancé Dwight McBain) of Honesdale, Pa., Whitney Sherman-Ryan (Paul) of Baltimore, Md., Joseph Sherman III (Linda) of Tunkhannock, Pa., Steven Sherman (Joyce) of New Albany, Pa., Nancy McKennas (Jim) of Laceyville, Pa. and Richard Sherman of Laceyville, Pa.
