Maurice Elza Graves died on Sept 24 2014 aged 91 at UNC Memorial Hospital. He was a resident of Carolina Meadows at Chapel Hill N.C.

Born On a farm near Princeville, Illinois August 23 1923, an only child of Joseph Elza and Grace Gard Graves, he married Marie Ostrom Sept. 7, 1947 at Princeville.

He grew up on a farm and attended local schools and received a B.S. degree in Mathematics from the U. of Illinois in 1947 and an M.S. degree in Meteorology from the U. of Chicago in 1950.

During World War II, he served in the Army Airborne in the European Theater. His professional career took him to Lima, Peru with Pan American-Grace Airways, to the U. of Michigan for advanced studies and work as a Research Associate, and to Huntsville, Ala. and Research Triangle Park, N.C. with Northrop Services. He retired in 1988 at Chapel Hill, N.C.

He was a member of Alpha Chi Rho and Phi Eta Sigma Fraternities and the Chapel Hill Bible Church. Preceding him in death were his wife of 59 years. Surviving are his three sons and three grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill. Graveside services and burial will be in Stringtown Cemetary near Duncan, Illinois at a later date.
