Paul Onesi, 101, of 80th Street, who attracted national attention last year when he celebrated the 80th anniversary of his marriage, died Thursday (April 30, 1998) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston.

A native of DiArquato, Italy, Onesi moved to Niagara Falls in 1927. He worked in the furnace division at Union Carbide from 1927 until he retired in 1961.

He and his wife, the former Mary Corsaro, were married Aug. 6, 1917, in Clymer, Pa.

They were recognized by the Pine Avenue Business Association in 1996 as "special citizens."

Onesi was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing.

In addition to his his wife, survivors include four sons, Joseph of Kissimmee, Fla., Anthony and Sylvester, both of Wheatfield, and John; two daughters, Mimi DeCorse of Lewiston and Kathryn Rotundo; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1055 N. Military Road, following prayers at 8:45 in Spallino-Amigone Funeral Home, 1300 Pine Ave.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
