Jessie Roberta Jones Sims was born December 29, 1952, in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Thomas Joseph Jones and Ida Lou McKelvin-Jones. She departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at her home in Columbia. She was 61.
Jessie attended the public schools of Richland County, graduating with the A.C. Flora High School Class of 1972. She also attended Midlands Technical College in pursuit of Certification in Medical Billing and Coding before she became ill.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Larry Sims on February 11, 1982 for 32 wonderful years. Jessie worked and retired from Fort Jackson as a civil service worker after 35 years of dedicated employment.
Jessie joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church in 1998 where she served on the Usher board and as a Deaconess. Reading, eating, traveling and shopping were some of the activities she enjoyed during her spare time. She was well-known for her great spelling abilities.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Deacon Larry D. Sims of the home; children: Toni J. (Jeremy) Faulkner of Charlotte, North Carolina, Tracey A. (Terrance) Martin and Shenetta M. Sims, both of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren: Jessyka and Jeremy Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina, Brit'ny of JBER, Alaska and Tre` and Bryce, both of Columbia, South Carolina; an uncle, Nathaniel (Nell) McKelvin; and a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly.
