She was the oldest twin and the third of five children born to the Rye family. Her youth was spent enjoying the county life in Shelby County Tennessee where she attended and graduated from Rosemark High School. As a young girl she professed her faith in Christ at a little white church in the county at Benjes Town Road .
At age 17 Rebecca met the love of her life Cleo Edgar and they were married March 16, 1943 at Hernando, MS. They made their home in Memphis and over the years were blessed with the birth of three sons and three daughters. During this time Rebecca dedicated her life to raising her children and giving her family a warm and comfortable life. She was always telling her children "Be happy in everything you do" and that is the way she lived her life.
When Cleo retired in June of 1969 from the City of Memphis where he worked as a heavy equipment operator, Cleo and Rebecca moved to Wheatley to make their home. They became member of the Wheatley Baptist Church where they were very active. She sang in the choir, worked with WMS's, VBS and was always there to help in any way she could. Several years later, when the One Accord Baptist Church was built at Posey, she moved her membership there to assist in the start up of the new church.
She was also active in community events. For a number of years during the Wheatley Spring Fest, Rebecca helped entertain playing in the "Grannie's Band", singing with the "California Raisons" , dancing with the group "Don't Mess With My Tutu" & playing in a sketch "The Ladies Fire Auxiliary" .
A very happy, outgoing person, Rebecca liked to make people feel comfortable . She enjoyed having a good time and was occasionally know to pull a practical joke. A jack of all trades and care taker for an army load of family, Rebecca sewed, crocheted, quilted, enjoyed working in her garden and yard, did oil painting and spent many hours playing with all her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling all over the US but her favorite spots were Mt. Home and Mt. View, Arkansas where she went to listen to country music.
On Tuesday evening, after a brief illness, the angles came and took Rebecca home to spend eternity with the Lord. Even during her illness and thru the last days of her life, she never lost that inner sweet joy that she had.
