Samuel D. Childes, 78 years old, a veteran of the Civil war died unexpectedly at his home 1420 Wetmore, early Saturday evening. Mr. Childes was down town Saturday morning attending to some errands. He went home and was about the house but in the evening complained of a pain and shortness of breath. Efforts were made to retrieve him but of no avail. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mr. Geo Peco of California, Mrs. J. Christianson of Everett and Mrs. Otto Klug of Seattle and three sons Melvin Childes of Lowell, A.J. Childes of Seattle and Earl T. Childes of Beverly Park. Mr. Childes served in the Eighth Wisconsin regiment Company throughout the war. He was a prominent member of John Buford post. Funeral services will take place at the chapel of challacombe and Fickel Tuesday at 2 p.m.. The local post of the G.A.R. will conduct the service at the grave. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.
