Wife of Elpidio Quirino, the sixth President of the Republic of the Philippines. She and her family were living in Ermita, Manila when they were caught in the crossfire between American shells and Japanese machine guns during the Liberation of Manila. She died along with three of her five children, her mother and a brother-in-law. Her husband personally carried the dead bodies of his family across the Estero de Paco, back and forth to the cemetery, where he single-handedly dug a grave for each of them. After this tragedy, her husband neither spoke of it to anyone nor remarried. When Elpidio became Philippine President, his only surviving daughter Victoria (or Vicky) became the First Lady of the Philippines at the tender age of 16, making her the youngest Filipino woman ever to hold the said position to date.
