Cornie M. Van Gorp was born on October 8, 1924. He was the only child of John Gys and Cora Mae (Van Zante) Van Gorp.

Cornie graduated from Pella High School in 1942. He attended Central College until he was drafted in the United States army. He served with the 99th infantry which fought in the Battle of the Buldge in Germany.

After his discharge from the army, he studied at Drake University. In 1952, Cornie married Helen Stults of Des Moines. The majority of his vocation was spent working with chickens while working and owning the Van Gorp Hatchery in Pella.

He passed away November 6, 2009, at the Pella Comfort House at the age of 85 years.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, a son, Jerry, of Omaha, NE and a step son, David Stults of Panama City, Florida. Also surviving him are five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
