Sarah was first married to Albert Newman in 1859 at Ridge Farm, IL. They had four children: Samuel Newman (1863-1944), Cora, who married Henry Stockwell, (1860-1936) Ulysses G. (1867, death date unknown) and Mattie (died before 1926, nothing else known). Albert Newman died in 1868 (although Sarah's obituary says 1867).
Sarah remarried in 1870 to John Thompson. There has been much confusion because the indexed IL marriage record states 1860, but this is incorrect. She had four children with John Thompson: Maude (dates unknown, only that she died before 1926 when Sarah died), James Ashmore Thompson, 1872-1958, Dora B. Thompson (married Franklin Hedges, then Lonnie Cox, buried under Hedges) 1879-1954), and Adaline Grace Thompson (married George West Jewell),1883-1965).
Although the memorial for Sarah's mother, Catherine Armstrong Ashmore, states that Catherine's first name was Sarah, I have never seen any evidence of this.
