From the Rutland Daily Herald, August 23, 1920:
Henry Lessor, formerly a resident of this city and well known throughout Rutland county where he passed most of his life, died Saturday morning at the Vermont Soldiers Home in Bennington where he had resided since October 1919.
The Bennington Banner gives the following account of his death:
Henry Lessor died at the Soldiers Home Saturday morning, Aug. 21, after a long period of suffering from cancer, leaving a daughter, Mrs. Harry Griswold of Brandon and other relatives. He was born in Sudbury, Oct. 17, 1841, but lived most of his life in Brandon and Rutland, entering the home Oct. 4, 1919, where he patiently endured intense pain.
He was one of the original members of Co. H., 5th Vt., enlisting from Brandon Sept. 5, 1861; re-enlisted Dec. 15, 1864; was promoted corporal April 2, 1865 and was mustered out June 29, 1865. Four other Lessors served in the old Vermont Brigade, all, including himself, having fine records as soldiers.
Mr. Lessor leaves one sister in Rutland, Mrs. Louis C. Raymond, Crescent street.
