Lamartine is also known as Salem. Married Dec 12, 1902, at New Martinsville WV, by Rev. D.A. Denton. Harry, better known as Rex, was an oil well driller and also taught drilling, to include maintenance of drilling equipment, in the U.S. and in Poland, where he worked for a total of seven years. In the early days of their marriage, Rex and Amy lived in a tent with a wooden floor near his work in north central West Virginia. They were the parents of Mary Elizabeth King Bodine, Ralph Malcom King, Mildred Lorraine King Swisher, Hazel Imogene King Bentley, Harry Hayhurst King, and Virginia Eileen Dare King Vivien. Rex and Amy lived for a period of time with Lorraine and her husband in Morgantown WV after retirement. A granddaughter remembers that during this time her grandfather, known to the family as Papa King, would return from a city bus trip downtown with a pocket full of penny candy for the grandchildren. Rex & Amy were living in a duplex in Waverly NY with daughter Hazel Bentley and her husband at the time of his death from uremia and generalized arteriosclerosis. Amy then moved back to Morgantown.
