Clara L. Cole, 92, of Big Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 08, 2013, from her residence in Colfax Township. She was born March 11, 1920, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Julius and Marion (Mortensen) Petersen, and lived in Big Rapids her entire life. For many years, Clara worked in food service, first at Ferris State College, and then later at Mecosta County General Hospital. Clara was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Big Rapids. She was very active in her church, and was former president of the Mary-Martha Group. She also served as the Communion Chair, and taught Sunday School as well. Clara was very devoted to her husband Bernard during his illness, and was a loving mother and grandmother as well. She loved cooking, quilting, and spending time in her flower gardens. On October 3, 1937, she married Bernard F. Cole, who preceded her in death on December 10, 2004. Surviving are 2 daughters, Linda (Charles) Howe of Big Rapids, Betty (Scott) Loll of Montrose; one son, Paul (Linda) Cole of Big Rapids; 6 grandchildren, Tamara (Dale) Arndt, Terry (Stacie) Howe, Randy (Lori) Loll, Joshua Cole, Jennelle (Tony) Mis, and Jillaine Cole; 8 great-grandchildren; her sister Estelle Cornell of Morley; and several nieces and nephews. Clara was also preceded in death by an infant daughter Mary Elizabeth, a grandson Jody Loll, her sister Louise, and her brother Jack. Funeral services for Clara will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, at the First Baptist Church in Big Rapids, with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions for her church may be left at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where Clara's family will greet friends today (Wednesday) from 6-8 p.m., and at the church after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
