ORGAN CAVE — Joseph Millard Cochran, 88, of Organ Cave, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, at The Seasons in Lewisburg. He was devoted to his family, church, community and will always be remembered by his neighbors for his hard work and help.

Mr. Cochran was born November 1, 1925, in Trout, WV, and was the son of the late Franklin David and Ada Caroline Hankins Cochran.

Mr. Cochran was a member of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, where he displayed an unwavering and everlasting spiritual faith in all his endeavors. He served with distinction and honor while in the U.S. Navy during World War II in various battles aboard the USS Bouge Aircraft Carrier. Joe was a member of the Methodist Men's group; American Legion, WV Horseshoe Pitching Association, National Horseshoe Pitching Association, an avid coonhunter and trainer, horseshoe pitcher, ginseng hunter and trout fisherman. He had been a Boy Scout Troop Leader and a member of the PTA. Joe won the Class D Division of the WV State Horseshoe Pitching Championship and was a participant in the World Horseshoe Pitching Tournament, as well as the Little World Horseshoe Pitching Tournament held in Winchester, VA.

Mr. Cochran's greatest accomplishment, other than his pride as a father, veteran and farmer, was the loving and devoted care he gave his wife, Almeda, during her long illness. He lived at The Seasons during the last days of his life and so appreciated the friendships he made and the compassionate care he received there.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Almeda Grey Fink Cochran; sisters Edith Wyatt and Glenna Hedrick and brother Edward Cochran.
