Silas was a private in Company H of the 7th Mississippi Infantry, CSA, and served two years. He was severely wounded on Sept. 20, 1863, at the Battle of Chickamauga and honorably discharged.
Silas married Dorthey Elizabeth Williams (1846-1932) about 1864.
