She immigrated to America at the age of 18 and settled in the Gibbon area. Her first employment was in New Ulm. On September 15, 1927, Hilda was united in marriage to Ervin Klitzke at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fernando. This marriage was blessed with two daughters and two sons.
After their marriage, the Klitzkes farmed the family homestead farm from 1927 to 1944, before moving to Brownton because of Ervin’s failing health. In 1947, they purchased the Klitzke homestead farm site and farmed until retiring in 1968. They became residents of Brownton in 1972, which was their home until Ervin’s death in 1975.
On November 25, 1977, she was united in marriage to Louis Dahlke at the Grace Lutheran Church in Brownton. After their marriage, they have been residents of Brownton to the present time.
Mrs. Dahlke was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church and since her marriage to Louis, they have held their membership at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She has been active in the Mission Charity Circle, the Senior Citizens of Brownton and also the Brownton Friendship Club. Hilda enjoyed the outdoors and she considered fishing and traveling an enjoyable past-time. She found special enjoyment in caring for her flowers.
She was admitted to the Hutchinson Hospital Wednesday where she passed away two days later May 3 at the age of 78-years.
She is survived by husband, Louis; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Arnold Plath of Brownton, sons and daughters-in-law, Ervin, Jr. and Jean Klitzke of Grygia; Harvey and Dorothy Klitzke of Fargo, No. Dak., Melvin and Elaine Dahlke of Brownton, Kenneth and Marion Dahlke of Carlos; grandchildren, Duane Plath, Jean Schauer, Steve Plath, James Plath, Debbie Ondrachek; Brian Swanson, Jody Swanson, Stacy K. Klitzke, Carey Klitzke, Dale Klitzke, Stacey R. Johnson and Penny Klitzke; Tammy Klitzke and Sonja Klitzke; Catherine Hausladen, Bradley Baumgarten, Gerard Baumgarten, Randal Baumgarten and Lynn Dahlke; Linda Sungaard and Laura Capp; fourteen great grandchildren, seven sisters and five brothers, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Darlene in 1938, her husband, Ervin in 1975, grandson, Brian Baumgarten and two brothers, Adolph Dressler and another in infancy.
Funeral was held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 1985, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton for Hilda Dahlke. Clergy officiating was Pastor David Anderson and organist was Mary Huebert. Soloist was Lynn Dahlke presenting the “Twenty Third Psalm” and Immanuel Lutheran Church Choir sang “Just As I Am.” Congregational hymns were “Nearer My God To Thee” and “Rock Of Ages.”
Casket bearers were LeRoy Hedtke, Clarence Hedtke, George Schiro, Ervin Beich, Clarence Berg and Wallace Quandt with interment in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Brownton.
