Born May 1, 1926 in Brooks County, he was the son of the late Coleman Thompson and Essie Head. He was a veteran of World War Two and was honorably discharged, was honorary deputy sheriff and peace officer, and was a member of American Legion Post 519 and the Elks Lodge. He was a retired mechanic for the Sunnyland Packing Company, and was married to Mary L. Hollis, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons Coleman Wilson Jr. of Atlanta, Marvin Wilson of Thomasville, and Kenneth Wilson of Ellenwood; daughters Marjorie Wilson of Thomasville, Christine Lester of Riverdale, and Shonda Wilson of Selden, N.Y.; sisters Mary Griffin of Valdosta and Effie Bean of Delray Beach, Fla.; granddaughters Lanitra Wilson of Marietta, Tracee Wilson of Lithia Springs, Erika Wilson of Jonesboro; Grandson Hanson Lester IV of Riverdale; great-granddaughter Daija Fletcher of Marietta; sisters-in-law Lena Wilson of Moultrie and Erdine Wilson of Thomasville, and Lola Bell Wilson of Moultrie; son-in-law Hanson Lester III of Riverdale; daughter-in-law Kimberly Wilson of Ellenwood; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
