Fred Bonan Dies, Funeral Tuesday

Fred Bonan, 90, former Schram city grocer and glass factory employee, died at 12:30 P.M. Sunday at Wood River Township hospital, where he had been a patient for a month. He had lived in Alton for several years.

The remains are at Patton funeral home here where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. tonight. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic church. The Rev. Michael McGovern will officiate and burial will be made in St. Agnes cemetery.

Born In Austria
He was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Paiar) Bonan and was born at Lanzia, Austria on Sept. 22, 1874. He was 90 years, 6 months and 13 day of age when he died.

He was reared in Austria and in 1905 was united in marriage with Minnie Martinelli at Lanzia. After their marriage they came to this country and lived in Ohio until moving to Taylor Springs for a while and in 1922 moved to Schram City where he opened a grocery store. He operated the store from 1922 to 1930 and then worked at the glass factory until retiring in 1949.

His wife died July 1, 1954 and after her death he went to Alton to live.

Surviving Relatives
Surviving are five daughters. Mrs. Vera Bellaver of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Cecilia Kellerhouse and Mrs. Mary Balen, both of Alton, Mrs. Irene Fath of Springfield and Mrs. Angeline Morse of Taylorville. A daughter Mrs. Josephine Vallorz died in 1941 and two daughters and a son died in infancy.

He also leaves five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two sisters. Mrs. Emma Dolzini of New Philadelphia, Ohio and Mrs. Teresa Mannifior of Austria. A brother, Joseph and a sister, Carmella, are deceased.
