David R. Kunkel, 71 of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away at 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 12, 2014 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana. David was born on November 19, 1942 in Michigan City, Indiana, to Loren and Vivian Irene (Rogers) Kunkel. He retired from Bethlehem Steel, where he had been employed for 35 years. Survivors include two sons, David Kunkel, II of Michigan and Darrin (Kathy) Kunkel of LaPorte, Indiana; one step-daughter, Lisa Uryga of LaPorte, Indiana; one step-son, Jeffrey J. (Pamela) Uryga of LaPorte, Indiana; four grandchildren, Ashley M. Jones, Alexander Uryga, Josh Kunkel, and Jacob Kunkel; and two brothers, Roger and Larry Kunkel. Visitation will be held from 7 until 8 p.m., E.S.T., Friday, September 19, 2014 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Blessing will take place at 7:30 p.m. David was a graduate of New Buffalo High School David's achievements in life are of an accomplished horsemen and Ferrier. He enjoyed life and especially traveling through the southwestern parts of the United States. He also traveled extensively throughout the world including the Holy Lands. He received his private pilot's license scoring one hundred percent on his exam. His musical talents included guitar, harmonica, and singing,of which he loved. His happiest years of his life include raising a blended family of four children and his wife of twenty five years and building his Rocking K Ranch from the ground up. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his family. His most recent passions were dancing and living life with many friends and winning Karen's heart .
