James H Fortner, 62, of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully in his home on September 13, 2014, after a long struggle with cancer.

Jim was born on December 12, 1951 in Terra Haute, Indiana. He was a graduate of Indiana State University Laboratory Institute (State High) and took classes at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and Indiana State University. In 1973 he began working full-time in the computer industry as an operator, systems programmer, and software developer.

Over the years, Jim held various jobs in seven different states. He finally settled with his wife Lorinda, in Naples, in 1985. He was a devoted employee of Fischer International up until June 2014 when he could no longer work due to health reasons.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Lorinda, of 29 years; children, Emily Fortner, Jeremy Fortner, Jesse (Sarah) Fortner, and Jacob Fortner. He also leaves behind a granddaughter, Arianna Fortner; a brother, Walter (Patricia) Fortner; sisters, Lorraine Fortner and Leslie (David) Forsman.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Fortner and Vera Heinze Fortner.

A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 4 pm at Naples First Church of the Nazarene, 3100 Bailey Lane, Naples, FL 34105.

Contributions in Jim’s memory may be given to help with his sons educational expenses. The donation should be designated for the Fortner Education Fund and sent to Naples First Church of the Nazarene, 3100 Bailey Lane, Naples, FL 34105. (Donations designated as mentioned will not be tax exempt.)
