Doris Ellen Eckert June 7, 1926 - Sept. 17, 2014 MISHAWAKA - Doris Ellen Eckert, age 88, of Mishawaka, died peacefully at her home at 2:10 am Wednesday, September 17, 2014, after a long illness. She was born June 7, 1926, in Springfield, CO, to Simpson and Cecelia (Brown) McCullough. Mrs. Eckert lived most of her life in this area, moving here from Charleston, IL. On April 1, 1972, she married Harley Eckert, who survives along with a daughter, Gail (Steve) Evans, Mishawaka; son, Dale (Jimmie) Tripp, Jones, MI; stepdaughter, Barbara (Buddy) Wilkes, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson, Jeanna Tarwacki, Jerica Burns, Josh Allen, Alicia Behling; step-grand-daughter, Courtney Muller; and 7 great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters. Mrs. Eckert had worked at Ball Band/Uniroyal in Mishawaka as an instructor in the aircraft commercial and military fuel cell and missile division. She attended Coalbash United Methodist Church in Mishawaka. Her greatest passion was her family. She enjoyed cooking for her family and decorating cakes. She loved watching and feeding the birds. She also enjoyed handicrafts and many outdoor activities. Family and friends may call from 11-1 Friday, September 19, 2014, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm. Chaplain Trevor Foley from the Center for Hospice Care will officiate. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice Care.
