Grand Chenier – Charles D. “Charlie” Theriot, 97, returned to his Heavenly Father from his home on Saturday, March 7, 2009, after a short illness, and a full and happy life.
Mr. Theriot is survived by his two daughters, Mae Ann and husband Carl "Mickey" Hebert of Lake Charles and Lidian Faye and husband Lester "Ferpo" Richard of Grand Chenier; daughter-in-law, Allie Mae Theriot of Sweetlake; six grandchildren, Leisa and husband Karl Nunez of Creole, Allyson and husband Kim Bourriaque of Creole, Lana and husband Tommy Nunez of Creole, Dana and husband Mitchell Baccigalopi of Creole, Darren and wife Judge Penelope Richard of Creole and Charles and wife Lanette Hebert of Lafayette; great grandchildren, Ryan Bourriaque and fiancé Megan LaGrange, Brett Baccigalopi, Kimily Bourriaque, Colby Nunez, Devon Richard, Griffin Hebert, Brilee Baccigalopi, Karlee Nunez and Brayden Richard; one great-great grandchild Libby Baccigalopi; three sisters , Nina Mae LeBoeuf of Lake Charles, Bessie Little and Leona Broussard, both of Grand Chenier; and many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Mr. Theriot was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years Macilda Theriot, his parents, Ambrose and Agnes Theriot; one son, Francis Melvin Theriot; granddaughter, Jennifer Lurlie Richard and three brothers Clyde Theriot, Lionel Theriot, and Frank Theriot.
Mr. Theriot was born on January 6, 1912 in Grand Chenier, Louisiana, where he lived all of his life. He was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church, Cameron Parish Farm Bureau, and the Knights of Columbus. He was crowned Cameron Parish King Fur XXIX in 1998, representing the cattle industry in Cameron Parish, and served as Parade Marshall of the 2001 Calcasieu-Cameron Fair. He had many extended families who he welcomed into his home, keeping a log of each and every visitor’s name for every family event for over sixty years. Mr. Theriot was an active cattleman all his life, spending much time horseback, and loved making a garden and giving vegetables to his friends and family. He spent many hours praying the Holy Rosary.
A Holy Rosary will be prayed by Reverend E. Joseph McGrath at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles on Monday, March 9, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father E. Joseph McGrath, pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Creole and administrator of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Cameron. The Mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene Catholic Church in Grand Chenier at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, with burial in the St. Eugene Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Darren Richard, Charles Hebert, Karl Nunez, Kim Bourriaque, Tommy Nunez, Mitchell Baccigalopi, Brett Baccigalopi, Ryan Bourriaque and Colby Nunez. Honorary Pallbearers will include Pat Campbell, Kent LaBove, John Nunez, Guthrie Perry, Nicky Rodrigue, Billy Doland and Louis Canik.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Monday, March 9, from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 10, beginning at 9:00 a.m., with departure from Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles to St. Eugene Catholic Church in Grand Chenier at noon.
