Donnie was the son of Alvin Robert and Vivian Oleta (Crawford) Slaughter. At an early age, the family moved to McGregor where he was a 1957 graduate of McGregor High School.
On March 18, 1960, he married Betty Ann Travis in Crawford. For 18 years, he was employed by Hercules in McGregor, in the Maintenance Division, retiring in 1996. For the past ten years, the Cty of McGregor has employed him in the Water Department. Donnie was a member of First United Methodist Church of Crawford where he served over twenty-five years as Sunday school superintendent and was a member of the Young Adult Class.
Through the years, he has enjoyed fishing, hunting and being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Betty Slaughter, of Crawford; sons, Tracy Slaughter, of Waco, Jeff Slaughter and wife, Angie, of Crawford; brother, Bucky Slaughter, of Crawford; grandchildren, Travis Slaughter and Tye Slaughter, both of Crawford.
