W Harold Braniff, 92, died on September 20, 2014, at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown ND.
(Willis) Harold Braniff was born February 22, 1922, at Doyon, North Dakota, to William and Julia (Berg) Braniff. He attended school in Doyon and graduated from Doyon High School in 1941. On May 26, 1944, Harold married Margaret Kragtorp at Zion Lutheran Church near McVille North Dakota. Margaret died on March 18, 2012. Harold was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Doyon, ND. Harold and Margaret were founding members of Atonement Lutheran Church, Jamestown, which has remained their church home up to the present. Harold was valued as a parts manager for various implement companies in Oakes, Fargo and Jamestown, ND. And, he valued the friendships made though these companies. Harold served his country honorably as a soldier (staff sergeant) in the U.S. Army, Company M, 359th Infantry, from Nov. 23, 1942, to Dec. 29, 1945. He was decorated for his service in the European Theater of Operation from Aug. 6, 1944, through Dec. 13, 1945, including the Battle of the Bulge. Harold was a proud member of the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in many positions in these organizations including the Color Guard, Commander of the American Legion, and “Grand Chef de Gare” of “Forty and Eight - Voiture 688.” Harold was especially proud of their support to Anne Carlson School and nurses training scholarships. Harold and Margaret loved the times they had together with their families – parents, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews – especially at Christmas-time. Their families remember with joy the Christmas Eves Margaret and Harold spent with the Kragtorp family and the Christmas Days with the Braniff family. Their families will continue to cherish those times in their memories. Harold is survived by brothers, Dalton (Carol) Braniff, Devils Lake ND and Donald Braniff, Fargo ND; sisters-in-law Gail (Bruce) Greer, Huntington Beach CA, Eleanor Olson, Aneta ND, and Darlene Kragtorp, Hopkins MN; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret; twin brother Lloyd Lincoln Braniff who died at birth, a brother, Justin Braniff; a sister & brother-in-law Evelyn &Russell Lund; brothers-in-law Ernest, Jarl (Clara), Alvin Kragtorp, and Alfred Olson, sisters-in-law Alice Braniff, and Georgine (Ralph) Reinhart; and five children who died in infancy.
