He was born on June 4, 1926 in Avis, PA to the late George O. and Susanna (Ricker) Billman. A graduate of Jersey Shore High School and Tri-State College (Angola, IN, BS in mechanical engineering 1949), he also received a master's degree from the University of Colorado in 1975. George served in the US Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater at the close of WW II. Attaining the rank of Corporal MOS 778 Radio Mechanic, Decorations awarded: American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
George was an aerospace engineer and worked on the Apollo Project in Florida for General Electric. Later, he assisted with the development of the Miami and Denver rapid transit systems. After his retirement, he formed a consulting company and remained active in the transportation field for number of years. Due declining health, he moved to Ohio in 2006 to be near his oldest son.
He married Genevieve (Summerson) in 1951. Their marriage would last almost 49 years until her passing in 1999. As a couple, they enjoyed dancing, bridge, traveling, and discovering fine restaurants. George was active in scouting, both in his youth and as an adult, serving as a scout master for a number of years.
He was also preceded in death by his son Michael in 1962 and his brother Jack in 2012. He is survived by two sons.
